My Lord is dwelling in each and every heart; not a
single place is empty.
But that heart is great where God manifests His
qualities.~Kabir~
Kabir’s Vision of Divine Presence
Kabir teaches that the Divine, or "My Lord," resides within every living being.
There is no place in the universe that is devoid of God’s presence.
This
universality of the Divine underscores Kabir’s belief in the interconnectedness
of all life.
However, Kabir highlights that the heart in which God’s qualities are revealed is truly special.
While God dwells everywhere, it is in the heart that manifests His virtues and attributes that one can witness the Divine most clearly.
Such a
heart is considered "great" because it becomes a vessel for God’s
qualities to shine forth into the world.
This perspective
encourages humility, introspection, and the cultivation of virtues so that the
Divine presence within may be revealed through our thoughts and actions.
This profound vision of divine immanence finds further expression in Kabir’s poetic imagery, where God is likened to fire residing in every heart—yet the light of this fire remains hidden unless ignited by inner awakening.
Just as a flint stone must be struck to reveal its spark, so too must the human heart be stirred by sincere search and self-realisation for the Divine’s radiance to become manifest.
Kabir’s words invite the seeker to look beyond outward forms and rituals, urging a deep and personal quest for unity with the Divine.
Through this journey, the individual self dissolves—like a drop merging into the boundless ocean—signifying a loss of separation and the attainment of spiritual oneness.
Ultimately, Kabir suggests that while recognising God’s presence everywhere is
important, it is the transformation of the heart that allows the Divine’s
qualities to shine forth, dispelling ignorance and illuminating the path to
true wisdom.
